Workshop of Frans van Mieris the Elder (1635–1681), Woman before a Mirror

The photograph shows the painting «Woman before a Mirror» by Frans van Mieris the Elder, dating to circa 1662. Mieris frequently repeated this subject. A young woman stands at her dressing table, arranging her hair in front of a mirror. Next to her is a Black maidservant holding a jewelry box. Frans van Mieris belonged to the school of Leiden fijnschilders (fine painters) and was renowned for his virtuoso ability to render the texture of luxurious fabrics. The reverse of the painting features a label from The Boydell Galleries, Liverpool, an art gallery that engaged in the sale and restoration of paintings. A date of 1912 is visible at the bottom, indicating the exhibition or cataloging of the item in London. There is also a stamp "XN395" on the panel, which is an auction house marking. The painting is executed on a wooden panel. A dendrochronological analysis has been conducted, proving that the painting was created in the 17th century; the report is available upon request. The painting is in excellent condition. The frame was made in the 17th-century tradition by the Smolka workshop in Vienna.
