Monumental “flat” vase, in celadon stoneware by Edouard Chapallaz.
Monumental celadon vase by Edouard Chapallaz.
Édouard Chapallaz (1921-2016) was a leading Swiss ceramist, known for his exceptional mastery of high-temperature glazes, inspired by Song Dynasty Chinese ceramics, which he recreated using electric kilns, a technical innovation. Trained as a potter, he worked in industry before devoting himself to his studio in Duillier (VD), producing unique, utilitarian, and architectural pieces, and becoming a contemporary “classic” of ceramics.
