Young French Cancan Dancer Preparing to Go on Stage, attributed to Claude FIRMIN, circa 1890

Oil on canvas depicting a young French cancan dancer preparing to go on stage. A very beautiful and highly sensual scene, painted by an artist of the Fauvist school, circa 1880–1890.
On the reverse, a label reads: “Attributed to Claude FIRMIN, 1864–1944, canvas discovered in the painter’s studio during the settlement of his estate.”
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1889 to 1922. A member of the Groupe des Treize, he became director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Avignon and was considered a master of Provençal painting.
Relined, 19th century frame.
