Pair Of Six-light Napoleon III Candelabras In Gilded Bronze And Marble

An imposing and elegant pair of French candelabra from the Napoleon III period, combining rich gilded bronze mounts with superb veined red marble. Each candelabra features a spectacular six-light arrangement, supported by generous, flowing gilded bronze arms, richly adorned with volutes, foliage, acanthus leaves, and rocaille motifs. Particularly remarkable are the finely textured translucent glass shades, which are set within delicate openwork gilded metal frames. Their corolla-like shape, surrounded by graceful arches, lends the entire piece exceptional finesse and lightness, contrasting magnificently with the monumental character of the candelabras. The central section rests on an elegant baluster shaft of red marble, framed by substantial gilded bronze mounts. The quadrangular pedestal, also made of red marble, is embellished with foliage-motif sconces and rests on a spectacular openwork gilded bronze base, composed of broad volutes and dynamically shaped feet. The depth of the red marble, the warmth of the gilded bronze, and the richness of the ornamentation give this pair a particularly majestic and decorative presence. The candelabras were formerly electrified; the electrical wiring has since been removed. They show signs of use and age consistent with their era.
