Powerful yet characterized by delicate lines, this copper relief by Georg Klimt (c. 1900) depicts Pallas Athena in a stern profile. Finely embossed and patinated, the work combines clear form with ornamental detail and clearly references the visual language of the Vienna Secession.
The connection to Gustav Klimt’s famous poster for the first Secession exhibition is unmistakable—an exciting dialogue between two brothers and a characteristic testament to Viennese Modernism. A matching relief is housed in the Leopold Museum in Vienna.
