Joseph Pierre François Jeanselme founded a furniture manufactory specializing in seating furniture in 1824 with his brother Jean Arnoux. In 1837, the firm established its premises at 7 bis rue de Harlais. In 1840, he entered into partnership with his son, Charles Joseph Marie, and as the business prospered, they acquired the Jacob-Desmalter firm in 1847.
The House of Jeanselme occupied a prominent position among the cabinetmakers of the nineteenth century. It was one of the principal suppliers to the Garde-Meuble under the reigns of Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III.
