Offered by Étienne de Roissart
A set of sixteen Louis XVI period chairs from the Principality of Liège, in painted white and gilt wood. The backrests feature a beaded oval medallion and an openwork structure with elegant, fluid curves. The tapered, fluted legs are surmounted by a carved connecting block, adorned with a rosette, a gilded acanthus-leaf ring, and a gilded band at the base. The rear legs are slightly splayed.
The seats are traditionally upholstered with horsehair padding, shaped in a cuvette form, and fitted with a “duchesse” cushion in a half down/feather filling. They are finished with Polish-style piping and decorative trims at the corners.
This suite combines great comfort with a festive and refined aesthetic. The upholstery is new, covered in Venier-aqua fabric by the Venetian house Rubelli, renowned for its ancestral craftsmanship. Derived from a 16th-century velvet preserved in the archives of the Fondazione Rubelli, the Venier-aqua fabric recreates its surface effects, incorporating subtle wear and irregularities through patterns formed by metallic threads.
