Elegant bonheur du jour in marquetry inspired by the great master cabinetmakers such as Topino and Kemp.
Our bonheur du jour dates from the Louis XV period, not stamped, though it certainly deserves to be.
The stepped upper section is recessed, featuring a central niche framed by small doors inlaid with marquetry vases of flowers in light and tinted woods, set against a light wood background and bordered with a fine green-stained wood edging.
The so-called “utensil” marquetry is similar in style to the work of Topino.
The central section opens with one main drawer and two smaller drawers on either side; its serpentine outline is decorated with delicate floral motifs.
The frieze contains a pull-out writing surface covered with an old gilt-tooled leather, still in very good condition, which conceals three secret compartments closed by sliding panels of tinted wood.
The piece stands on four elegant cabriole legs ending in gilt-bronze sabots.
