French work
Circa 1870
Composition
Two marquises (loveseats)
Four armchairs
Two side chairs
Four matching wall tapestries
Description
The seats feature a finely carved and gilded wooden structure, richly decorated with pearl friezes, acanthus leaves, ribbons, and rosettes. The fluted tapered legs and straight medallion backs are characteristic of the Louis XVI aesthetic.
The seats, backs, and armrests are upholstered in Aubusson tapestry with a floral au buisson design, depicting graceful bouquets of roses and foliage on a cream background framed with carmine borders.
Wall tapestries
The four matching panels display the same floral composition. Each is adorned with floral medallions, garlands, and ribbons in harmonious, soft, and warm tones. These panels were designed to dress the walls and complement the seating suite, as was customary in aristocratic interiors of the 19th century.
Condition and provenance
Original gilding in very good condition. The tapestries are fresh and well-stretched.
French work from the second half of the 19th century, Aubusson manufacture.
