The Sun, Marce Truyens (born 1939) – Brussels Tapestry Georges Chaudoir workshop

Georges Chaudoir, with the active assistance of his wife Suzanne Perot, is regarded as the renovator of the art of tapestry, once so highly developed in Brussels. Unfortunately, he is also the last representative of this craft, which brought Brussels renown for many centuries.

In 1910, he took over the workshop of Arthur Lambrechts, founded in 1878—almost a century after the closure of the workshop of Jacques Van der Borcht, the last bearer of the ancient tradition.

After his death, Suzanne Perot, with the help of one of her daughters, Georgette Lambin-Chaudoir, and her grandson Michel Borin, a decorator trained at the École d’Art et Métiers in Etterbeek, continued the business until Suzanne Perot’s passing.

Thus ended the last Brussels manufacture that alone had the right to use the BB mark (Bruxella in Brabantia) surrounding the red shield of the Brussels master weavers—a mark seen in the work of masters such as the Leyniers, Van der Borcht, Reydams, and Van der Dussen.
