Large living room chest of drawers with two rows of drawers, decorated with gallant and pastoral scenes in Martin varnish. Exceptional gilt bronze ornamentation such as drops, inlets, handles, feet, and apron in their original gilding.
The marble top is covered with Aleppo Breccia marble, possibly added later.
English work by John Cobb (royal cabinetmaker) and Pierre Langlois.
George III period, circa 1770.
A similar chest of drawers and a pair of lacquered corner cabinets also attributed to John Cobb and Pierre Langlois (Sothebys july 2018, Vente Treasures, lot 22) featured the same mouldings and a very similar gilt bronze apron.
