Beautiful pair of porcelain and gilt bronze planters.
The ovoid porcelain bodies with vertical crenellations feature a beautiful Imari-style decoration in cobalt blue and iron red, with circular reserves depicting traditional scenes in a palace park.
The mount consists of a double rim, guilloché at the top and gadrooned at the bottom, attached by handles with lion muzzles holding rings in their mouths.
Very well-preserved.
The reverse is marked with six Chinese characters in blue within a double circle, which translates as "Made during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing of the Great Qing Dynasty."
Chinese porcelain for export to Europe, probably during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing around 1820.
The mount is made of sand-cast bronze, finely chiseled and mercury-gilded, Paris, first half of the 19th century.
Dimensions:
Height: 19.5 cm for one, and 21 cm for the other.
Diameter: 16 cm
Our opinion:
The pair of planters we are presenting features a beautiful bronze mount crafted using the techniques of the ancien régime.
It is adorned with a porcelain whose decoration is reminiscent of 18th-century Japanese Imari production.
All these elements, along with the signature, allow us to date this pair of planters to the early 19th century, which is also confirmed by the delicate guilloché rim, which corresponds to productions made under the Empire and the Restoration. It is possible that our order dates from the period of the return of the emigrants who, after the revolution, were keen to renew the art of living that they had had to abandon.
