(Commissioned for the Archbishop-Elector of Mainz)
This finely glazed soft-paste porcelain plate, 23.5 cm in diameter, is decorated with a mottled “bleu moucheté” ground, centered with gilt laurel garlands – a hallmark of Napoleonic Sèvres aesthetics.
The back bears the red enamel inscription “de Sèvres 7”, with “7” corresponding to the imperial year 1807.
Historical provenance: This plate formed part of a table service commissioned by Napoleon I and delivered on August 12, 1807 to Karl Theodor von Dalberg, Archbishop-Elector of Mainz and Prince-Primate of the Confederation of the Rhine. In 1813, Napoleon appointed Eugène de Beauharnais to succeed Dalberg and lead the Confederation.
Good general condition, no restoration.
