The 18th-century tray, circa 1730–1740
Its polychrome decoration presents an extensive port scene, teeming with figures and three masted ships laden with cargo in a bay featuring a goods landing stage, thatched cottages, and antique ruins flanking the landscape on both the left and right. The rim and apron are embellished with multicolored pebble patterns encircling a broad cartouche composed of shells, leafy palms, trelliswork, and other shell motifs forming a decorative frame. Within the scene, on a fragment of ruin, appears the inscription “DROT,” which is likely the painter’s signature.
