A fine solid mahogany and mahogany veneered bureau plat, signed .IACOB
François-Honoré-Georges Jacob Desmalter (1770-1841). Signature used between 1815 and 1825.
The desk is opening by two drawers, and raised on four baluster legs, ending in brass caps and castors. The writing surface is divided in the middle in two leaves. These two leaves can be easily unfolded, and the desk is extending to a square games table, or breakfast table for four to six guests.

François-Honoré-Georges Jacob Desmalter (1770-1841), youngest son of the famous Georges Jacob, was active during the Directoire and the Consulat within the company Jacob Frères associated with his older brother, then during the Empire with his father Georges Jacob within the Jacob Desmalter Company. After the bankruptcy of the Jacob Desmalter company in 1813, he continued his activity in a new company under the name Jacob Desmalter et Cie until 1825, in which the furniture was stamped JACOB with the old Georges Jacob iron mark, without the letter G.
