Phryné in front of his judges - James Pradier (1790-1852)

Phryné (in front of his judges), bronze statuette with patina medal, produced in the second part of the nineteenth century by the founder Susse frères in Paris (stamps) and presence of the signature Pradier on the base. Very good
general condition. Elaborate carving in the details bringing realism and character, some traces of old gilding, and oxidation points visible on the views.
Reminder of the theme: Phryne Athenian courtesan is accused of corruption for having dedicated a cult to a foreign deity, her lover Hyperides, who pleads in her favor, to support her arguments reveals the great beauty of the accused and obtains her acquittal...
Jean-Jacques (dit) James Pradier was born in Geneva (1790/1852) born of a family originally from Toulouse, in 1807 he joined the School of Fine Arts in Paris, obtained the first Prix de Rome in 1813, often inspired by antiquity, among his many famous sculptures we owe him "the 12 Victories" around the tomb of Napoleon at the Invalides.
