Franck Antoine BAIL
(1858-1924)
Antoine Bail took the nickname Franck Bail to free himself as a painter by the name of his father Antoine-jean Bail.
Painter of the region of Lyon, he was like his brother Joseph Bail, promised a great future as a painter and were admitted to follow the painting classes of the master Jean Léon Gérome and Carolus Duran.
Dividing his time between his studio on bd Rochechouart in Paris then quai de Bourbon and the villages of the drill of his childhood. He was one of the great figures of the French Naturalist movement, he exhibited regularly at the Paris painting salons between 1878 and 1915 but also he represented France at the San Francisco international salon in 1910.
He received the Legion of Honor in 1920.
His works are visible in the museums of the Louvre, Besançon, Remiremont, Doullens.
Our painting entitled "Auvergnat interior" or "the day of the brass" was presented Hors Concours under the 178 at the 1908 Salon d'Automne in Paris, it is pictured on page 61 of the catalog.
The decoration of our painting can also be found in a work by Franck Bail “inside a farm” from 1909.
