Nighttime Ball circa 1600, Workshop of Louis de Caullery (1580–1621)

A Flemish painter active in Antwerp; he was admitted as a master to the Antwerp Guild in 1602.
He was a pioneer of *fêtes champêtres* (outdoor festivities) and courtly gatherings.

Our painting depicts a ball at the French court, with a lute player and other musicians on the right. The central scene shows the sovereigns dancing, dressed in sumptuous attire. It possesses a wonderful quality of execution and atmosphere.
