Tabletop of Antique Roman marbles

Table top made from ancient Roman coloured marble fragments.

This panel gathers a small constellation of ancient coloured marbles into a single geometric composition: two large roundels of mottled pink-and-red breccia occupy the upper register, while the lower field is organised around a great lozenge of grey-green stone set within a square frame, its corner set off by a sliver of black marble. Around and between these principal elements runs a dense, irregular patchwork of smaller rectangular and triangular fragments in cream, tan, and grey tones, fitted together like a puzzle rather than cut fresh from a single block. The whole is set within a plain wood frame, evidently made to carry the panel as an inset table top.
