Hebe In Carrara Marble, After Bertel Thorvaldsen

An elegant and imposing Carrara marble sculpture depicting Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth and cupbearer to the Olympian gods. Created during the Empire period, in the early 19th century, this sculpture is based on the famous neoclassical model by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844), one of the most important European sculptors of the Neoclassical movement. Hebe is depicted in an elegant contrapposto pose, holding a shallow cup in her raised right hand and a water jug in her left, attributes that evoke her role as the server of nectar and ambrosia to the Olympian gods. The serenity of her face, the harmony of her proportions, and the delicacy of the drapery perfectly embody the ideals of Neoclassical sculpture, deeply inspired by Antiquity. Carved from beautiful Carrara marble, the work is a testament to its high-quality craftsmanship. Particular attention was paid to the delicate modeling of the anatomy, the subtlety of the facial features, and the precise, flowing folds of the garment. With its elegant proportions and timeless classical subject, this sculpture is a beautiful example of early 19th-century neoclassical sculpture. Subject: Hebe, goddess of youth
