Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824–1887), Figure Porte-Torchère

An important patinated and fire-gilded bronze figure by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824–1887), one of the leading French sculptors of the nineteenth century and the teacher of Auguste Rodin.

The sculpture depicts a graceful female figure holding a torch aloft, standing on its original circular marble pedestal. The refined modelling of the face, the carefully arranged drapery and the balanced composition are characteristic of Carrier-Belleuse's work.

The bronze retains its original brown patina with finely preserved fire-gilded details highlighting the headband, belt, sandals and decorative elements. The contrast between the patinated bronze and the gilding enhances the quality of the modelling and gives the sculpture a refined appearance.

Signed A. Carrier.

Standing approximately 186 cm high, including its original marble pedestal, the sculpture has an impressive architectural presence and is suitable for an important entrance hall, gallery or private collection. Monumental sculptures by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse are rarely encountered on the art market.

Owing to the size of the sculpture, it was difficult to photograph it under optimal studio conditions. We would be delighted to send you a detailed video and additional photographs upon request, allowing you to fully appreciate the quality and presence of this remarkable work.
