Landscape with Architectural Ruins
Leonardo Coccorante (Naples, 1680–1750)
Oil on canvas
Mid-18th century
Carved and gilded frame
Canvas 48 x 38 cm
Frame 60 x 50 cm
Very good condition
The canvas depicts a composition of architectural ruins, executed in the typical pictorial style of Neapolitan landscape artist Leonardo Coccorante, who specialized in producing large-scale works with this subject.
In this case, the limited dimensions suggest a preparatory work for a large-scale work, crafted with exquisite attention to detail and excellent rendering of both perspective and volume.
A splendid 18th-century frame, finely carved and gilded, perfectly highlights the painting.
