Wool Tapestry
143 cm x 280 cm
Signed at the bottom of the border
This beautiful Aubusson tapestry, with its charming subject, is in remarkable condition. The colors are still vibrant, especially the reds and blue-greens. The varied palette gives the vegetation a striking realism. The design is precise thanks to the fine weave.
The composition of the scene is clear, legible, and contrasting. This tapestry is signed at the bottom of the border, which is quite rare for 18th-century Aubusson tapestries. This piece has been properly lined and fitted with a ring hanging system, as seen in one of the photos. It is possible that this pastoral scene was removed from a larger tapestry, but this is not certain. The original border is also in very good condition.
This tapestry comes from a private collection in the Yvelines near Paris, where it has been perfectly preserved for 60 years.
