JULES MOIGNIEZ

Jules Moigniez was a French animal sculptor, born on May 28, 1835, in Senlis and died on May 29, 1894, in Saint-Martin-du-Tertre.

He studied under Paul Comolera and, in 1855, participated in his first major exhibition with the sculpture The Pointer with Pheasant (1855) at the Universal Exhibition, receiving an honorable mention at the 1859 Salon.
He was also exhibited at the 1878 Universal Exhibition.
Unlike other animal artists of the time, such as Pierre Jules Mène and Antoine-Louis Barye, who were primarily interested in their subjects, Moigniez's bird sculptures often incorporate numerous details.
These works became particularly popular in England and the United States after the war.

Ill for several years, he committed suicide on May 29, 1894, in Saint-Martin-du-Tertre, where he is buried.
