A lovely painting of a young violin student captured by the painter during a rehearsal.
Evert Jan Boks was a Dutch painter. He studied at the Royal Academy of Antwerp, where he won first prize in 1863.
He was also the winner of the highly prestigious Prix de Rome competition.
After studying abroad, mainly in France and Italy, he settled permanently in Antwerp.
Many of his works were sent to the United States at a time when the first American tourists began to visit Europe in large numbers.
He was actively involved in the artistic life of Antwerp. Boks exhibited in Belgium and at the Paris Salons. He was awarded the Order of Leopold by the Belgian government.
His works are preserved in the Antwerp Museum.
