Neoclassical marble bust of an idealized youth, probably an allegorical figure such as Cupid or a putto (cherub).
Italy, circa 1890-1910.
Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915) was a renowned Florentine Italian sculptor active from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Specializing in marble busts, allegorical figures, and classical themes, he often collaborated with his sons in the Pugi workshop. The works from his workshop are signed "Pugi" and were widely exported, particularly to the United States and Europe, during the Grand Tour period.
Pugi's workshop also exhibited at major events such as the 1900 Paris Exposition, and his works are now held in private collections and museums.
