Offered by Cristina Ortega & Michel Dermigny
This exceptional set consists of 26 carved and gilded wood lotus flowers and leaves. They can be presented in two pairs since each element is duplicated.
The flowers and leaves, captured at different stages of their life cycle—buds, blooming flowers, and seed capsules—symbolize the path to enlightenment in Buddhism. The lotus, rooted in the mud but rising to bloom above the surface, embodies purity, spiritual rebirth, and resilience in the face of hardship.
Each element demonstrates the craftsmanship of the artisans, with a perfect harmony between materials and proportions, creating an imposing and elegant visual presence. The largest flowers are approximately 104 cm tall, and the widest leaves reach 22/23 cm. Originally created to adorn temples, these flowers, at the crossroads of art and ritual, offer a valuable insight into Japanese aesthetics and spirituality. Today, they are a unique and spectacular decorative element. These are in perfect condition.
