Pair of Louis XV walnut cabriolets, 18th century
This attractive model of "cabriolet" armchairs, in a violin shape, is carved from 18th century walnut.
The crossbars of the backs and seats, as well as the tops of the legs, feature a decoration of protruding carved flowers and leaves.
The armrest consoles, decorated with "coup de fouet" motifs, are adorned with cuffs.
These armchairs rest on precisely traced, arched legs with scrolled ends, whose moldings meet those of the fretwork crossbars. The elegance and balance of these chairs, the depth of the molding, the attachment of the armrest console mastered by the use of "coup de fouet" (whiplash) technique, the ornamental diversity of the flowers on the crossbars and backrests... All these characteristics allow us to link these chairs to 18th-century Lyon production, such as that illustrated by the famous carpenters Pierre Nogaret and François Canot.
