Sarcophagus fragment of the “Sidamara” type. Lycaonia-Türkiye, 2nd-3rd centuries CE.

Fragment of a 'Sidamara' type sarcophagus, a region that is part of modern-day Turkey. It takes the form of an elaborate architectural ornament with a fragmentary cornice composed of bands of vegetal, oval, spherical motifs and on top left a putti struggling with a panter.

Provenance: Belgian collection. Formerly private collection of a Belgian diplomat.
