An amuletic rock crystal and silver gilt crabs eye pendant.
French or German, late 17th century.
Measures 4.5 x 2.8 x 1.9cm excluding loose bail.
The exterior of the pendant is set with finely faceted, tear drop shaped pieces of clear rock crystal with engraved silver gilt dogs-tooth settings. Each side of the pendant opens to reveal three hollowed semispherical compartments within the rock crystal, both sides are separated by a dividing silver gilt lid securing its precious contents.
