Winged Amor, Italt circa 1700

Winged Amor, seated while crowning two wooing birds with a wreath of flowers in his right hand. Delicately carved in walnut. This was the lid of what must have been an expensive little box, most probably as a wedding gift (cf the theme of Amor and two lovebirds). That the box must have been quite expensive can be derived from the quality of the sculpture and the variety of expensive materials used: mother of pearl, polished bone, horn, paesina stone (pietra paesina).
