Stained Glass Fragment, France 14th century

This foot is a rare example of the dawn of stained glass art. Monochrome greyish-purple. It almost looks as an X-ray photograph of a foot with the bones of the toes. What makes this fragment even more particular is that a human face of a bearded man has been added around 1600. As glass was an expensive medium, old fragments were sometimes used by artists as a testcase for their designs. The whole composition gives the impression of an X-rayed foot with head tattoo.
